Trainings for Vermont’s local officials and volunteers run Oct 23 – Nov 7
October 16, 2019
MONTPELIER - What does it look like when governments cooperate? That question is the premise for the 7th annual Municipal Day. The popular training, sponsored by the Agency of Natural Resources, is an opportunity for municipal representatives to meet and learn from state officials during workshops designed to empower and inform Vermont’s local government officials and volunteers. Participants, who range from planning and zoning commissioners to town managers and selectboard members, walk away with information they can immediately apply in their daily work.
“Municipal Day is at the heart of what we as an Agency do every day: working with Vermonters to achieve important environmental outcomes together,” says ANR Deputy Secretary Peter Walke. “We welcome the opportunity to hear directly from town officials, and I invite you to join us and share your town’s experiences.”
Again this year, Municipal day is hitting the road to better serve more Vermont towns. “The networking and relationship building with the state employees who work with our local towns is invaluable,” wrote a 2017 attendee of the Rutland regional Municipal Day. “We need to do this more often!”
Trainings kick off October 23rd with a sold-out event in Springfield – but registration for the other locations is open for just a few more days. Workshop topics include grant opportunities, river corridor protection, automated wood heat, recycling regulations, how to use mapping tools for environmental planning, and much more.
“As a new Selectboard member, I found [the Municipal Day training] particularly helpful in getting to know some of the environmental issues we need to address on the Town level and the resources that are there to help us,” reflected one Montpelier participant after the 2017 event.
Full-day sessions are $25 including morning coffee and lunch. Half-day sessions are just $15 and include light refreshments.
