Free, Guided 2017 First Day Hikes

 

Montpelier—Start the New Year on the right foot and get outside for a “First Day Hike” in a Vermont State Park. Individuals and groups are invited to join one of several free, family-friendly hiking events taking place on January 1, 2017 throughout the state in beautiful parks and forests. Professional guides and outdoor educators will lead the way, sharing their knowledge and love of the Vermont outdoors.

New Location for St. Johnsbury Regional Office Dec. 19

ST. JOHNSBURY—The Agency of Natural Resources’ regional office in St. Johnsbury is moving to a new location at the end of this week. Residents and businesses served by this office are advised of the upcoming change and temporary office closing.

The current office location on Portland Street (Route 2) will be closed Friday, December 16 to accommodate final moving procedures. If you need immediate assistance during this time, please call the Agency of Natural Resources main office in Montpelier at (802) 828-1294.

State Releases Universal Recycling Status Report

Montpelier – On the heels of America Recycles Day—a national celebration of recycling held each November 15th—the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) released it’s first “Universal Recycling Status Report.”  The 16-page report summarizes the status of recycling, composting, and food donation across the state.

Vermont’s Universal Recycling law (Act 148) passed unanimously in 2012. The law’s goal was to reverse decades-long stagnant recycling and composting rates and it is working.

The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources and the Public Service Board will hold a meeting to brief stakeholders on the ongoing Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) 2016 program review and to receive comment on Vermont-specific elements of the RGGI program.

The meeting will cover the current status of the program review, and the highlights of the RGGI stakeholder meeting of November 21.

Watershed Grant Application Deadline Extended to December 2nd

*Deadline Extention:  Applications are now due no later than Friday, December 2, 2016. 

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- The 2017 Vermont Watershed Grants Program is now accepting applications for projects that protect, restore and enhance the state's lakes, streams, rivers and ponds, as well as projects that help Vermonters understand and enjoy these treasures.  Applications are due no later than Friday, December 2, 2016.
