Rebates on Advanced Wood Heating Equipment Now Available for Commercial and Institutional New Construction
January 27, 2020 - The Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation (FPR) announced the availability of a new incentive program for advanced wood heat systems in commercial and institutional new construction. Qualifying installations will be eligible to receive custom incentives of $1.25 per square foot of heated space, up to $50,000.
State Awards $11 Million to Local Nonprofits Working to Restore Water Quality

The state’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) awarded nearly $11 million in water infrastructure financing to fund conservation and restoration projects that will protect and restore Vermont’s water quality. These projects will reduce water pollution and protect water quality by conserving key forests, lakes, rivers, and wetlands throughout the state.

Burlington Dry Cleaner Fined for Leaking Hazardous Air Contaminant
January 15, 2020 – The Agency of Natural Resources Department of Environmental Conservation announced today that Two Go Dry Cleaning, Inc., owner of Greers Dry Cleaners in Burlington, was fined $8,000 for failing to maintain a dry-cleaning system that prevents leaks of the toxic solvent perchloroethylene, and for mismanaging contaminated waste materials.

State Adopts 5-Year Plan to Reduce Amount and Toxicity of Vermont’s Waste
January 10, 2020 – The State’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is encouraging Vermonters to start the new decade with a commitment to trim “waste-lines.” Currently, the average Vermonter disposes over 1,300 pounds of trash per year. Over the next 5-years, the State and municipalities will help Vermonters bring the amount down to about 1,000 pounds each year. Small steps can make a difference in reaching this goal - like composting food scraps.
Plans Underway for Improvements at Mt. Philo State Park: Enhancements to Parking, Trails, and Summit Access Planned

After nearly a decade of work and with substantial public input, the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation (FPR) has completed the long-range management plan (LRMP) for Mt. Philo State Park. This plan will guide the long-term management and stewardship of the area’s natural resources and human use. Work on the Mt. Philo plan has been a lengthy process, during which several public input meetings were held and the plan underwent multiple revisions to incorporate public feedback.
