Introduction to Fly Tying

Introduction to Fly Tying, Mondays, March 11, 18, 25, and April 1, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Learn the basics of tying flies for fly fishing in this fun, hands-on series and walk away with some beautiful new flies. Participants will learn terminology, tools and basic fly patterns.

Turkey Hunting Seminar

 

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is hosting three free turkey hunting seminars this spring – one on Saturday, April 6 at the Barre Fish and Game Club, one on Sunday, April 7 at the Hartland Fire Department, and a third one on Thursday, April 18, at the Vermont Fish and Wildlife office in Essex.  All three seminars will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

A shotgun patterning clinic will be held at the Barre seminar.  Participants should bring their own shotgun and ammunition and keep them secured in their vehicles until instructed to bring them to the

Spring 2019 Clean Water Lectures series -  Thursday, April 11 | WISPr, It’s Louder Than It Sounds: Millions of Dollars Available for Natural Resources Restoration

Terisa Thomas and Ashley Lucht with DEC’s Water Infrastructure Financing Program will discuss a new funding mechanism for natural resources restoration projects through the Water Infrastructure Sponsorship Program (WISPr). This lecture will be in the Catamount Room (N215) at the National Life Building in Montpelier from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm.

Photography Presentation and Bird Walk

 

Photography Presentation and Bird Walk, Sunday, April 28, 10:00 a.m. – noon.

Vermont wildlife photographer Brian Machanic will present a photography presentation entitled The Art in Birding. Following Machanic’s presentation, Ali Thomas of the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department will lead a one-hour field walk on Bonsawino Wildlife Management Area to help participants identify some of the amazing birds that can be found there.

Vermont wildlife photographer Brian Machanic will present ‘The Art in Birding’ at the Kehoe Education Center in Castleton, Vermont on Sunday, April 28 at 10:00 a.m. The presentation will be followed by a one-hour bird walk at the new Bonsawino Wildlife Management Area adjacent to the education center.

Arbor Day Conference

The Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program hosts a one-day conference held in honor of Arbor Day and all of the hardworking professionals and stewards that care for our community trees.

The Vermont Arbor Day Conference welcomes the stewards of Vermont's urban trees and community forests to enhance their technical skills, discuss relevant topics in urban forestry, and network with professionals and volunteers engaged in urban and community forestry.

Spring 2019 Clean Water Lectures series -  Thursday, May 9 | Stormwater Update: What You Need to Know About the New 3-Acre General Permit

Padraic Monks with DEC’s Stormwater Program will offer details about this upcoming permit, which will require sites with three or more acres of paved surfaces that lack a stormwater permit to treat their stormwater runoff. This lecture will be in the Winooski Room (M240) at the National Life Building in Montpelier from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm.

Hear from DEC Lakes and Ponds Program Environmental Scientist Leslie Matthews as she reviews the lake score card, a user-friendly interface developed by the Vermont Lakes and Ponds Management and Protection Program (VLPP). Leslie will also share available data on the overall health of Vermont’s lakes. This lecture will be in the Winooski Room (M240) at the National Life Building in Montpelier from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
