Green Mountain Conservation Camp ‘Work-cation’ Weekends
May 11, 2021 - The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is looking for volunteers to join them for fun-filled weekends to get the camps ready for the 2021 season. This year, the GMCC Kehoe ‘workcation’ weekend will be May 15-16 and the GMCC Buck Lake workcation weekend will be May 22-23.

Vermont Fish and Wildlife Partners with Intervale Center to Offer Spring Outdoor Programs
May 5, 2021 – The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department will be working in partnership with the Intervale Center in Burlington, VT this spring and summer. Programs will provide a variety of outdoor opportunities connecting participants to the nature around the beautiful forests and fields of the Intervale ecosystem.

Sustainable Harvesting of Wild Plants
Early spring is a great time to get outside for hikes, birding and collecting wild edibles. High on the list of the latter category are fiddleheads (the unfurling leaves of ostrich ferns) and ramps (wild leeks). Both species are quite common in Vermont, but excessive harvest has resulted in local population declines, according to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department.
While commercial harvest of either of these species is prohibited on state and conservation lands, there is no regulation on private property.

April 26, 2021 – The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department says as temperatures warm, songbirds return and the ice recedes, a shift in fish behavior also occurs. Many fish species found in lakes and ponds throughout Vermont become more active, feed more regularly and provide a great fishing opportunity.
Vermont Outdoors Adds Features to Fish & Wildlife Department Mobile App
April 26, 2021 – Last fall the Fish and Wildlife Department developed a new mobile application to help people recreate outdoors in a safe and socially distanced manner. The app, Vermont Outdoors, connects the public with department lands, fish and wildlife regulations as well as up-to-date COVID guidance.

These clinics are open to people of all ages and levels of experience, including those who are completely new to fishing. Participants will learn about aquatic ecology, fishing regulations and techniques, fish identification, and much more.
