March 15, 2021 - Vermont ice conditions are deteriorating rapidly on lakes throughout the state because of recent warm weather, according to Colonel Jason Batchelder, Vermont’s chief game warden.
“While some of the best ice fishing of the season can come during mid-to-late March, the ice will be going fast,” said Batchelder. “It is especially important to pay attention near inlets, outlets and on reservoirs where water may be drawn down.”
March 10, 2021: State Game Warden Sergeant Travis Buttle of Shaftsbury is Vermont's Game Warden of the Year. A game warden since 1996, Buttle was nominated by his peers and received the award in recognition of his excellent service.
Mendon, Vt. - The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) invites public comment on the draft long-range management plan for Aitken State Forest (918 acres), located in Mendon, Rutland County. The management plan serves as a guide for land management on ANR lands and typically covers a planning period of 20 years. ANR conducts public outreach as part of the planning process to develop a better understanding of the public’s interest in and use of state-owned lands.
Since spring of 2020, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department has partnered with the Vermont Farm to Plate Network to host the Vermont Wild Kitchen, a Facebook Live cooking show taking place on the third Thursday of each month. March’s episode will feature Abenaki Chef Jessee Lawyer who will prepare traditional Abenaki ingredients with a modern twist. Some wild and local ingredients Lawyer plans on using include deer shank, bear fat, garlic, sumac, and more.

February 17, 2021 - The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department wants to make it easier for people to go fishing by simplifying its fishing regulations.
Fishing regulations have become increasingly complex over time as amendments were added, making the rules more difficult for anglers to understand and challenging for the department to administer and enforce.
February 12, 2021 – Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) Secretary Julie Moore invites the public to join her on February 23 from 4:00-5:00 PM for a virtual discussion about environmental permitting in Vermont. Each year, ANR issues a variety of permits for projects covering everything from septic system upgrades to solar development. These permits support smart economic development and community growth while protecting and conserving Vermont’s important natural resources.
February 5, 2021 – The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), in collaboration with local nonprofits, town officials, scientists and regional planners, finalized two tactical basin plans that outline the strategy to restore and protect rivers, lakes and wetlands across much of the state, from Ferrisburgh to Peacham.
