The Vermont Climate Action Commission will be hosting a series of public scoping sessions through the state in September and October to gather input and recommendations from Vermonters. The Commission hopes to hear people’s experiences in dealing with the effects of climate change, as well as their ideas for potential actions that the Commission could recommend to the Governor’s office.
These full- and part-day events provide workshops, technical assistance and the opportunity to engage with State staff and municipal colleagues from across Vermont. Not only will we be offering our annual workshop in Montpelier but, new this year, we are pleased to expand our geographic reach with satellite sessions in Rutland and St. Johnsbury.
The Agency of Natural Resources announced today that Ruby Construction, Inc., former owner of the hilltop property containing the Mammoth Quarry in the Town of Wells, and the company’s lessee Royal Harrison, were jointly held responsible for a massive discharge of water and sediment into Lake St. Catherine. They have been fined a minimum of $9,000 and are required to appropriately remove the deposited sediment from the lake.

Recipients of the 2017 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence have been announced and will be recognized at a ceremony at the State House on August 4th. Environmental excellence awards have been given since 1993 to recognize efforts and actions of Vermonters to conserve and protect natural resources, prevent pollution, and promote environmental sustainability. To date, more than 200 efforts have been recognized.
