Vermont Green Business Program Launches Blog, Brewery Program and New Resources

MONTPELIER – The Vermont Green Business Program is relaunching to expand offerings to members and drive positive environmental impact. The Program has refined its application process, updated its website, added new online resources and has a fresh new approach to working with businesses.

The Vermont Green Business Program, housed in the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), is a statewide assistance and recognition program designed for environmental leaders. Together, the over 230 members have formed a community of businesses and organizations actively applying cutting-edge environmental practices to their organizations. From energy efficient lighting to habitat preservation and composting, these businesses work hard to protect Vermont’s environment.

“We are proud to be a Vermont Green Business. We love our clean Vermont air and water and we’re committed to protecting the environment, the health and safety of our employees, and the community in which we conduct our business,” said Ellen Kahler, Executive Director at the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund.

Wanting to expand the impact of the Program, DEC’s Environmental Assistance Office recently hired Catherine Craig, who holds a background in environmental law and business, to relaunch the program. Under Craig’s leadership, the Vermont Green Business Program will be expanding resources available to its members. One of those resources will be a new environmental cohort program, called the Vermont Green Brewery Cohort, in partnership with Efficiency Vermont, offered to Vermont breweries. Each brewery in the cohort will become a Vermont Green Business Program member, receive personalized assistance in navigating environmental regulations, and with the help of Efficiency Vermont, achieve ambitious energy use reductions.

“I am thrilled by the new direction of the program and am confident our approach will drive positive environmental impact while offering enticing resources to our members,” said Kim Greenwood, Director of DEC’s Environmental Compliance Division.
