Why: The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Under Secretary for Rural Development, Lisa Mensah, and U.S. Rep. Peter Welch will announce a new wastewater grant and loan for the town of Williamstown Friday during an Earth Day celebration at the town’s public safety building. The Earth Day celebration will highlight local, state and federal efforts to promote water quality Mensah, who oversees a portfolio of more than $200 billion in community, housing and business investments nationwide, will announce that the agency is funding a long-awaited wastewater improvement project in Williamstown.

The press conference will be followed by a service project performed by Congressman Welch, USDA staff, the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation’s ECO AmeriCorps members and community partners. The service project will work to clean a Williamstown brook of pollutants in honor of Earth Day.

AmeriCorps members will also hold Earth Day events around the State.
