The Northeast Section Geological Society of America Annual Conference

The Northeast Section Geological Society of America meeting will be held at the Doubletree by Hilton in Burlington on March 18-20, 2018. ANR's Geology Division staff will present at the conference and will serve as co-chairs of technical sessions on emerging contaminants (PFOA) in groundwater, geoscience applied to government and community issues, and fault zones. The conference will showcase work by universities and students in Vermont and includes sessions on Lake Champlain, glacial geology, soils and water quality, river restoration, lakes, land use and geophysical tools for exploration.

March 18th: 

  • Geologic mapping, hazards and water: Vermont Geological Survey’s impact on public issues
  • Characterization of Vermont’s groundwater resources
  • Superposed fault generations and the architecture of the Champlain Valley belt of Northwest Vermont
  • A Lidar-based landslide inventory of Washington County, Central Vermont

March 19th: 

  • PFOA surficial mapping in Bennington
  • 4D characterization of a fractured bedrock aquifer contaminated with PFOA in Bennington

March 20th:

  • Landslides in the Great Brook watershed of Washington County
