Landslide Closes Road and Trail in Waterbury

Waterbury, Vt.Following a significant landslide on Friday, May 31 a portion of the Cotton Brook Road and the entirety of the Fosters Trail in Mt. Mansfield State Forest in Waterbury have been closed until further notice.

“We are currently assessing the situation to ascertain the extent of damage and whether conditions have stabilized,” said Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation Field Recreation Specialist Walter Opuszynski. “We’re also determining what will be involved in the cleanup and the timeline for reopening. We’ll be sharing more information as we learn more about the situation.”

Visitors are still welcome to access this popular recreation area as normal from the Cotton Brook parking area in Stowe, but are urged to use caution and respect closures, as dangerous conditions remain. The closures begin at clearly marked signs a short distance from the parking area.
