Governor Peter Shumlin has appointed three new members to the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Board from Windsor, Bennington and Addison counties.
MONTPELIER - The Agency of Natural Resource’s Department of Environmental Conservation today announced that it formally settled environmental violations involving the Burlington International Airport (BTV). The City of Burlington operates the airport. The settlement includes a $37,754 penalty.
The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (VT DEC) Environmental Careers and Opportunities (ECO) AmeriCorps program is seeking members and program partners to build on the success of its inaugural year. Applications are currently being accepted for both roles. The deadline for service sites to apply is March 7. Member applications are accepted through April 18. Vermont’s Secretary of Agriculture, Chuck Ross, and Vermont’s Secretary of Natural Resources, Deb Markowitz, jointly submitted the interim report on subsurface agricultural tile drainage to the Vermont General Assembly on February 16, 2016. The Subsurface Tile Drainage Interim Report is a summary of the progress the two agencies have made in preparing a final report on tile drainage, which is due to the Legislature in January, 2017. Vermonters with an interest in conserving wildlife should consider making a donation to the Nongame Wildlife Fund on line 29a of their state income tax form this tax season. The fund helps to conserve some of Vermont’s most threatened wildlife species such as bald eagles, lynx, and turtles, in addition to helping many of the state’s imperiled pollinators such as butterflies and bees.

Hunters, landowners and anyone else interested in Vermont’s wildlife should plan on attending one of the three events hosted by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department in late March.
Each March the department holds three public hearings to provide the results of the deer hunting seasons and receive public input on the status of Vermont’s deer herd.
